1. Trading Hours: Monday 8:00 AM to Saturday 4:55 AM (Malaysia Time)
According to the announcement, the trading hours run from 03:00 on Monday to 23:55 on Friday (GMT+3 platform time).
Converted to Malaysia Time (MYT), this corresponds to 8:00 AM on Monday through 4:55 AM on Saturday. The extended schedule allows traders in Malaysia to access eligible US stock CFDs during daytime hours without having to wait for the regular US market session.
Regular US stock market trading begins at night in Malaysia. By extending trading hours, STARTRADER aims to provide greater flexibility for traders in regions with significant time differences from the United States.
STARTRADER CEO Peter Karsten explained that many of the company's clients live far from New York, making it difficult to align their schedules with US trading hours. He noted that extending weekday trading hours would give these clients greater flexibility to trade without having to adjust their routines around the US market opening.
2. New Additions Include Alphabet, BlackRock, and Nike
The 48 newly introduced stock CFDs cover a broad range of sectors, including technology, finance, and consumer goods.
Some of the key instruments include:
| Company | MT5 Trading Symbol |
|---|---|
| Alphabet | GOOGL.24H |
| Marvell Technology | MRVL.24H |
| Super Micro Computer | SMCI.24H |
| Wells Fargo | WFC.24H |
| BlackRock | BLK.24H |
| Nike | NKE.24H |
| Rivian | RIVN.24H |
The new instruments will be available on STARTRADER's existing MT5 live servers. According to the company, they will operate under the same regulatory framework as its other trading products.
The expansion also coincides with the third-quarter earnings season for US companies. Several financial institutions and asset management firms included in the offering typically release their earnings early in the reporting season.
The extended trading hours may allow traders to respond to earnings announcements and other market-moving developments released outside regular US trading hours.
3. How the New Offering Differs from Existing 24/7 Trading Instruments
On October 6, STARTRADER introduced 20 stock and ETF CFDs available for trading 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The addition of 48 more US stock CFDs represents a further expansion of the broker's extended-hours trading offerings. However, there is an important distinction between the two groups of instruments.
While the previously introduced 20 stock and ETF CFDs support 24/7 trading, the newly added 48 US stock CFDs are available for trading 24 hours a day on weekdays only.
Therefore, the term “24-hour trading” does not necessarily mean that an instrument can be traded over the weekend.
Traders should check the relevant trading symbols and schedules displayed on MT5 to confirm the availability of each instrument before placing orders.
4. Understanding Spreads and Liquidity Outside Regular Trading Hours
Although extended trading hours offer greater flexibility, trading conditions can vary significantly depending on the time of day.
In its announcement, STARTRADER cautioned that spreads may widen and liquidity may decrease outside regular US market hours.
While traders may be able to react more quickly to breaking news or market developments, wider bid-ask spreads can increase transaction costs, particularly during periods of lower liquidity.
It is also important to understand that these instruments are contracts for difference (CFDs), which allow traders to speculate on stock price movements without owning the underlying shares.
Unlike traditional share trading, CFDs typically involve leverage, which can amplify both potential profits and losses. As STARTRADER has highlighted, CFD trading carries a high risk of substantial financial losses within a short period.
STARTRADER is a multi-asset broker offering trading services through MetaTrader, the STARTRADER app, STAR Copy, and other platforms.
According to the company's announcement, it operates under regulatory oversight across five jurisdictions, involving the CMA, ASIC, FSCA, FSA, and FSC.
However, the specific regulatory requirements and investor protections applicable to each account depend on the legal entity with which the client has entered into an agreement. Traders should verify these details before opening an account.
