Cedi Holds at GH¢11.74 to Dollar as BoG Keeps Injecting
Abstract:The Bank of Ghana's latest data put the cedi at a mid-rate of GH¢11.7400 to the US dollar for 11 August 2026, with the pound at GH¢15.8566 and the euro at GH¢13.5481, according to Pulse Ghana. The report also noted the central bank sold more than US$8.2 billion through its FX programmes between January and July 2026 amid a 10.61% year-to-date depreciation of the cedi.

The Ghana cedi was quoted at a mid-rate of GH¢11.7400 to the US dollar for transactions conducted on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, according to the Bank of Ghana's latest exchange rate data reported by Pulse Ghana. The rate comes as the central bank continues to inject dollars into the market to manage pressure on the cedi and stabilise the foreign exchange market.
For the same day, the US dollar recorded a buying rate of GH¢11.7341 and a selling rate of GH¢11.7459, which produced the GH¢11.7400 mid-rate. The pound sterling was quoted at a mid-rate of GH¢15.8566, while the euro stood at GH¢13.5481.
Dollar, Pound and Euro Mid-Rates
The pound traded with a buying rate of GH¢15.8481 and a selling rate of GH¢15.8651 on 11 August 2026. The euro recorded a buying rate of GH¢13.5419 and a selling rate of GH¢13.5542.
Pulse Ghana also listed mid-rates for other major currencies on the same day. The Swiss franc stood at GH¢14.4737, the Australian dollar at GH¢8.2907, the Canadian dollar at GH¢8.4337 and the New Zealand dollar at GH¢6.9040. The Chinese yuan was quoted at GH¢1.7407, while the Japanese yen came in at GH¢0.0738.
Regional Currency Rates
For selected regional currencies, the Bank of Ghana mid-rates reported by Pulse Ghana for 11 August 2026 included the Nigerian naira at GH¢116.0920, the Gambian dalasi at GH¢6.2968 and the West African CFA franc at GH¢48.4171. The Sierra Leonean leone was quoted at GH¢2,046.7321.
Central Bank Intervention and Reserves
The latest rates arrive amid renewed pressure on the foreign exchange market. Pulse Ghana reported that the Bank of Ghana sold more than US$8.2 billion through its FX Intermediation and FX Intervention programmes between January and July 2026. The FX Intermediation Programme accounted for about US$7.45 billion, while another US$811 million was supplied through the FX Intervention Programme.
The increased intervention follows a 10.61% depreciation of the cedi against the US dollar by the end of July 2026. Reports put the country's foreign exchange reserves at more than US$12 billion.
Policy Rate and Inflation Outlook
Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Asiama said the Bank's 14% policy rate provides room to keep inflation under control while supporting economic activity, investment and growth, according to Pulse Ghana. The governor's remarks frame the central bank's broader effort to balance price stability with support for the economy as it manages cedi volatility.
