Shares of BancFirst Corporation have underperformed the broader market in recent months, raising concerns among investors. Over the past six months, the stock has fallen about 15.9% to around $112.95, while the S&P 500 gained roughly 5.1% during the same period.
Analysts highlight several risks that may limit the bank‘s upside potential. One key concern is slower growth in net interest income, a critical profitability measure for banks. Although BancFirst’s net interest income has grown about 9.8% annually over the past five years, much of that growth came from higher margins rather than expansion in lending. In fact, the banks loan portfolio has gradually declined.
Future growth expectations also appear modest. Analysts forecast net interest income to rise about 4.3% over the next year, slower than its recent historical pace.
Additionally, earnings growth has been relatively moderate. The companys earnings per share have increased about 6% annually over the past two years, which may be less attractive compared with faster-growing sectors.
While BancFirst remains a stable regional bank, analysts say investors seeking stronger growth opportunities may look beyond the traditional banking sector.
