Forex Rebates: How Introducing Brokers and Rebates Work
خلاصہ۔:A clear explanation of how Introducing Brokers earn rebates from your forex trades and how rebates can lower your net cost, but are not a trading strategy.

What Are Introducing Brokers and Trading Rebates?
An Introducing Broker (IB) is a person or firm that brings new clients to a forex broker. The broker pays the IB a commission or rebate based on the trading volume of those clients. This is a performance-based marketing arrangement.
A trading rebate is a cashback amount that the IB may share with the trader from that commission. For example, if the broker gives the IB $5 per lot traded, the IB might keep $2 and give $3 back to the trader as an incentive to trade more.
The core idea: instead of paying for advertising, the broker uses part of the transaction cost to reward the IB for bringing business. The trader may get a small reduction in its effective trading cost.
How Rebates Are Calculated
Before we walk through a hypothetical example, lets clarify two terms that every beginner needs to know.
A pip is the smallest standard unit of price movement in forex. For most major pairs like EURUSD, one pip equals 0.0001. (With pairs like USDJPY, a pip is 0.01.) The spread is the difference between the buy price (ask) and the sell price (bid) your broker quotes. It‘s the broker’s fee built into every trade.
Now imagine you open an account with a broker through an IB. We‘ll assume the broker’s standard spread on EURUSD is 1.0 pip. For one standard lot (100,000 units), each pip of movement is worth $10. So on a round-turn trade, the broker earns $10 from the spread.
The broker has agreed to pay the IB a rebate of 0.4 pip per lot. The IB, in turn, promises you a rebate of 0.2 pip per lot.
Now, suppose you trade 1 standard lot of EURUSD.
- Broker‘s income from the spread: 1.0 pip × $10 = $10
- IB’s gross rebate from the broker: 0.4 pip × $10 = $4
- Your net rebate from the IB: 0.2 pip × $10 = $2
Your effective transaction cost drops from the full $10 spread to $10 minus the $2 rebate = $8. The IB keeps $2 after paying you.
This example uses round numbers for clarity. In practice, spreads, pip values and rebates vary by broker, account type and currency pair. Mini or micro lot traders see proportionally smaller rebates.

Numbers are hypothetical; actual rebates depend on broker and IB terms.
Common Pitfalls and Misunderstandings
Rebates are not free money. They are a portion of the spread or commission you already pay. An account with a tight spread and no rebate could end up cheaper than a wider-spread account that offers a large rebate.
Not all IBs act in your interest. Some may encourage excessive trading to boost their own commissions. Always trade according to your own plan, never to chase rebates.
Rebates do not signal broker quality. A broker offering high rebates might have wider spreads or poorer execution. Compare the all-in cost (spread minus rebate), not just the headline rebate.
The IB rebate model is not universal. Some brokers prohibit IBs from sharing commissions with traders. Others require separate agreements. Always read the brokers regulatory disclosures.
Your rebate may be taxable. Depending on where you live, cash rebates could be considered income. Consult a tax adviser if youre unsure.
What It Is and What It Isnt
Introducing broker rebates are a marketing tool that can reduce your net trading costs. They are not a trading edge and not a reason to trade more. A rebate doesnt make a losing strategy profitable. It only lowers the cost of the strategy you already have.
Used wisely, rebates can be part of cost management. Misunderstood, they can lead to overtrading and chasing volume for the wrong reasons.
